L'EVANGILE

Robert Parker

93/100 Drink: N/A

The sexy, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2006 l’Evangile achieved 14% natural alcohol, as high as any of the great vintages at this estate. Abundant amounts of dark raspberry and black cherry fruit intertwined with sweet plums and hints of figs as well as spring flowers jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, fleshy, supple-textured, silky wine. Drink it now or cellar it for 15-20 years.

94-96/100

This is an outstanding wine. A rounded, ripe nose of blackberry, cassis, plum and a touch of sawdust. It could do with a little more delineation but good intensity. Very soft, subtle entry leads to a rich, decadent, fleshy palate with immense power and concentration. Layers of glycerine-rich black fruit, quite a lot of oak, a very ambitious L’Evangile with great length and persistency. Modern winemaking, perhaps lacking some finesse but enormous potential and its breeding just shines through. Tasted February 2008.

Château L'Evangile-Grand Vin-Appellation Pomerol
Château L'Evangile

Château l'Evangile has always been considered among the first great growths of Pomerol. Located on the noble part of the Pomerol plateau between Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, the vines grow on a soil and subsoil in which sand and clay alternate with layers of pure gravel. The resulting wine is powerful, distinguished, and has an incomparably fine bouquet and for many wine lovers, the hallmark of l'Evangile is a subtle, but unquestionnable elegance.

in 2004, Chateau l'Evangile renovated their cellar to reflect the progress made in the vineyard (gradual replanting, plot-by-plot vineyard management, rigorous sorting of grapes, etc) and thei constant quest to further improve quality. The new tank room makes it possible to ferment grapes from different parcels individually and the circular underground cellar maximises the use of gravity to transport the wines.
