16.5 Drink 2016-26 A bit overripe and lolly-like on the nose, although the Graves freshness shines through too. Very slightly dull and lacking vivacity on the palate. Drying finish. A little stodgy even if worthy – gripping tannins. Very dry. A bit more solid than usual. Another tasting revealed it as pretty sweet and succulent – then very dry tannins. A disjunction between the please-all start and the drying finish for the moment. |

For the past four centuries, Château Haut Bailly has over-looked 28 hectares of vines in a single block. These grow on soil consisting of sand and gravel from the Tertiary period with a fossil stone subsoil.
Haut Bailly’s reputation as one of the very finest wines of Bordeaux was established in the 19th century; Robert G Wilmer, the owner since 1998, continues to prioritise outstanding quality in all aspects of production, combining a blend of tradition and modernity with respect for the environment. The unique terroir of Château Haut Bailly produces wines that are outstandingly reliable and whose prestigious reputation is due to an inimitable style marked by finesse and elegance.
